Chris Blundell (principal) and Alastair Kendrick (director) are experienced employee tax specialists who have previously worked for Big 4 firms and join from a Top 20 firm where they advised a diverse range of employers. They also have significant experience of working with a number of FTSE 100 companies. Chris joined MacIntyre Hudson in July and Alastair joins today (1 August) to expand the employment tax team.
Additionally, VAT expert Gerry Myton has also recently joined the firm as principal and the senior VAT offering in London will be further enhanced by the arrival of a VAT director in October. Gerry has previously worked for Big 4 and Top 20 accountancy firms.

The employment tax team specialises in PAYE, company car taxation, equity & reward and expat services and regularly address issues such as share incentives, the operation of PAYE and the application of NI. The Construction Industry Scheme and company car fleet taxation are also familiar territory for them.
The VAT team covers the entire VAT spectrum with particular expertise in retail, travel & leisure, motor and international VAT issues. They advise a range of clients from individuals to large corporates.
Alastair Kendrick is continuing to concentrate on all aspects of employment tax and company car taxation but is currently looking at the proposed overhaul of the PAYE system with the introduction of 'real time reporting’. He says:
“Real time reporting of PAYE is a significant issue for all organisations as it will require considerable work for our clients to get up to speed in time for the changes, which will go live between April and October 2013. It seems a long lead in time but it’s a huge change in a system that we’ve had since the 50s and the penalties for getting your reporting wrong will be significant.”
Alastair is advising all clients on the key issues:
- In year penalties if your PAYE isn’t reported and paid for correctly
- P45s and P46s will no longer exist; instead, HMRC will control the details of how much information organisations have about existing or joining employees
- Payroll outsourcing: who is and isn’t up to speed? Is your agency on board with the changes and how do you check?
- Are in house payroll teams up to speed with the requirements and what is the plan for implementing the changes?
- While some areas of PAYE will be relatively stratightforward, others – such as share schemes – will be tricky
Rakesh Shaunak, MacIntyre Hudson’s Chairman, said: “Following the recent merger with the not for profit practice Gotham Erskine, I’m thrilled to be announcing another expansion of the MacIntyre Hudson team which will benefit our clients nationwide.”
